We are truly kicking off summer with the arts in Downtown Port Washington. May 31st, we hosted our annual, award-winning Port Festival of the Arts, welcoming in thousands of attendees, over 100 vendors, 9 performing acts, 1 chalk artist and countless art projects on a bright, sunny day at the lake to kick off this summer season. It was full of color, connection, and culture. It’s not too early to save the date for next year’s event on May 30th!

We also launched “Paint the Summer,” for the third and final year of Paint on Port (POP) Murals, a program adding 13 murals to our city over these three years. Painting has started on the first mural, located on the retaining wall on Jackson Street on the northern border of our downtown. Artist James Barany will tell the story of Port’s Lake Michigan history in a large-scale mural spanning from indigenous people to the height of shipping (and shipwrecks!) to the commercial and fishing industries of today. Stop by to see his art take shape over the next few weeks and follow @paintonportmurals and @downtownportwi for all the mural updates this summer.
